Mark is an old soul from the suburbs of Kansas City. Some of his greatest inspirations are Jazz, Blues, Movies and Barbeque. His artistic heroes include Pablo Picasso, Al Hirschfeld, Thomas Hart Benton, Stanton MacDonald-Wright, Diego Rivera and Miguel Covarrubias. He explores color, shape and movement from Cubism, Futurism and Synchronism. He loves faces and how a humorous portrait or caricature can reveal so much more about a personality than any posed photo ever could. He is a strong believer that illustration will once again rule the world (in his lifetime). He still works and lives in the Midwest with his family. He eats dry ribs and takes the family to a movie every year on his birthday.

Testimonials from email

“Tremendous thanks to Mark A Montgomery (aka Mark A Montgomery Illustration) for creating a stunning banner image for Job Guarantee Now!: Teach-In for Economic Rights. The contemporary visual culture surrounding full employment politics is narrow and impoverished. Case in point: even pro-Job Guarantee articles tend to only feature pictures of white men in hard hats or nostalgic images from the WPA. Montgomery’s banner, by contrast, conjures myriad types of persons and professions, while pointing to multiple forms of socially useful work. It thus represents an important step forward in developing a diverse, inclusive, and forward-looking visual imagination for #JobGuarantee politics.
